Recorded in the LHD studio in 2010 this material sees the melodic elements back to prominence after the dry Rhinoplasty ep from last February. I have the feeling that a four tracker can work in the direction of a “little album”, there is more room to explore a sound or develop an aesthetic, so expect a dense listening experience.
Asking myself if it is still possible to make music without a grid in 2011, especially electronic music, I still keep playing around it, allowing sometimes more sometimes less freedom. The straight kick, a frame to let the music work in a club related situation is still dominant - in straight 4/4 mode.
There are still some corners to explore in this tiny quadratic room, and from time to time I still find the inspiration from my live shows and the work of fellow musicians to push the sounds in a “clubby” direction once again, thinking to the open minded djs and music selectors that can find my ideas interesting and helpful for a colored, changing and evolving set rather than go for a monolithic sound.

Rhynoplasty ep brings me back on the techno side of things. Dry as I can possibly get, I felt I needed to release this music after I had played it so often and with such great feedback during my live shows.
During the last months, as I did some final tweaking to the three tracks, I found pretty strange approaching once again this bare and dark sound. Actually it is pretty far away from what I have been currently working on, so that it felt almost mixing someone else’s music.
And I love how that feeling helps me out when it’s time to take the final decisions, to end a track or a project.
Also I am particularly in love with this three pieces since they are the first I had produced when I installed myself in the LH studio, so that this music brings me back to that cold winter when I started to define the actual label and studio concept.
My personal favourite is Reptile, I am really proud of the way psychedely and funk get along together, and has really that something that makes me wanna bounce on the dancefloor.
As for the two other, I must say I love how they sound especially after the mastering was able to “glue together” the low range, in particular Re-thought gets pretty close to be a “dj tool”, which is also pretty unusual for my productions.
Touane The Live Archive Part I June 2010. Buy The new series of LHD releases, The Live Archive, it’s a rework and rearraging of material performed exclusively live during the latest 6 months of Touane shows across the globe. 1) The Bass and the Abstract Truth Born as a two hour session in the studio back in 2009, this track made it to a final form way after it became a staple as the opening to my latest North America and European shows. The thing gets dubby, while retaining his colourful and original elements. 2) June 1sT The sound of a midi sequenced orchestra, and a steady kick-hi hat combination, for one of my longest tracks to date. Very few but cautiously orchestrated elements contribute to a very powerful club tool. 3) Cavalca Used to conclude some of my latest sets recently: playing this at the end the night, when people got finally closer to me and smore familiar with my music, it’s worked just magic: the epic, almost melancholic melody pairs perfectly whith the break in the middle of the track as everything dries up and kick and clap carry on the rhythm, a perfect track to play late in the morning! |
